A
great night was had by all who attended the 10 year Anniversary Cocktail
Party for the NSW Olave Program, at Tingira on Saturday 9 December 2006.
As the sun set, the
partying started and the memories flooded the deck as everyone had a story or
two about their favourite Guiding pasttime. The tales were tall and the cries
of laughter were quickly whisked away by the summer breeze.
It was great to have
members and the Chairpersons of the inaugural National and State Olave Program
Committees Kate Moore, Jodie Chilvers and Gomer
come along and share with us their stories and memories.
It could be quite
easily said that these three have been the "strongmen" of the Olave Program. Not
only did they conquer the unenviable by coming up with a new program when the
Ranger section was no longer viable, but they have also stuck out the good and bad
times and are an inspiration to us all. We are all truly grateful to all members
of those inaugural committees who have helped shape what is truly a great
program that is today an essential part of Guiding.
Coincidentally the
first event of the Olave Program was also held at Tingira with a very small
group of believers. It's hard to believe how far we
have come since then.
The night was not all
about formalities or gossiping; there was a bit of dancing, a bit of eating,
plenty of drinking, a presentation of old pics from the past 10 years and the
showing of the Koninderie (1 st Australia Youth Gathering in
1996/1997) video, which brought back many memories… but what happens at camp
always stays at camp!
Thank you to everyone
who helped us celebrate 10 years of the Olave Program. It will be a night to be
remembered for
many years to come.
The next 10 years are
going to be just as exciting if not more challenging as we explore further
options for participation by members and continue to develop links for members
aged 18 to 30 to become involved in the decision making processes of Guides
Australia.
And we are going to do
it in style with our fantastic luminescent purple champagne glasses!
