The four World Centres are Our Chalet (Switzerland), Pax Lodge (London England), Our Cabana (Mexico) and Sangam (India). These Centres belong to WAGGGS, and are therefore 'homes' to guides throughout the world.

FOWC (NSW) began in 1977 to spread information about the Centres and their various activities, to encourage support for them, both physically and financially. Fundraising has happened in a variety of ways - luncheons and parades of designer knitwear arranged by FOWC; units have held competitions and theme meetings; patrols have earned pennants by studying the Centres, and contributing towards them; and, of course, there have been many donations.

Membership of Friends of World Centres is open to anyone. There is an annual fee, payable at the beginning of the calendar year. (Members joining after 30 June are enrolled until the end of the following year.) Individuals, units, patrols, trefoil guilds, support groups, districts/divisions/regions may join. Life membership is available to individuals only.

Members receive three newsletters each year (unless they indicate that they do not with to receive them.) 

Several world tours have taken place, visiting each of the World Centres and other places. These have proved extremely popular and are open to husbands of members of Guides Australia.
