A Guide Leader is ...

A volunteer

Guiding is voluntary in every sense of the word.  Girls and women take part in Guides in their free time.  It's not a school subject  for children, or a paid job for adults.  It offers those who take part fun, purpose, skills, lasting friendships and satisfaction.

You may never have thought of yourself as a leader before, but Guiding will give you the chance to become one.

There are many reasons for wanting to be a Guide Leader.  Some of our Leaders, in professions as varied as engineering, teaching, medicine and librarianship, want to be a good role model for girls.  Others don't want girls to miss the fun they had.

A trained leader of children

Being a Guide Leader yourself may seem quite a complex task.  But you will be supported and taken step by step through all aspects of the role before you work with girls.  You can expect:

  1. Continual training and support from the organisation in the form of publications, training sessions, conferences and workshops, and local, national and international opportunities to get together with other members of the Girl Guides Association (New South Wales).
  2. The chance to work with a Guiding Partner as you train, someone who is experienced in the role.

The first step to becoming a Leader is to join the Girl Guides Association (New South Wales) as an adult member.
