All About Guides

Guides NSW offers you and your daughter a challenging community-based youth activity in a safe and caring environment.

 All About Guides!

How often do Guides meet?
Guides usually meet in a local hall, once a week during term time for 1-2 hours, depending on the girl's age.
Outdoor activities are an important part of the Guide Program. Guides also learn many skills by attending camps and trying outdoor adventurous activities in a safe and responsible environment.

Why just girls?
Research has shown that girls and young women can achieve more when they are in an all girls environment.

Is there a cost?
Youth and Adult members pay an annual State membership fee to Guides NSW.  Members also pay a small fee to their local unit, which may vary across the state, as well as occasional fees for camps and special activities.
Guiding offers very good value for money.

Is there a uniform?
The girls in each unit decide on the Guide gear that best suits their unit, choosing from a wide range of uniform options. The uniform helps to develop a sense of belonging and team spirit.

 Who can be a leader?

Any woman aged 18 years or over who has a love of life, and the enthusiasm to help girls and young women achieve their maximum potential, can volunteer to be a leader.

No prior Guiding experience is necessary, with Guides Australia training courses providing the skills required to become a leader of youth or adults.

 How can parents be involved?

Parents are welcome to join the District Management Team or Support Group. There are many different roles available to suit your talents and the time you have available.

You will meet other parents and gain satisfaction from your involvement in the Guiding community.
